Fog Rolls Past Lumberjacks 106-100 on Road Upset Fueled by Stellar Second Half
Morozova's Late Surge Lifts Fog Over Lumberjacks; Svensson and Chen Shine
PORTLAND, OR – The San Francisco Fog weathered an early storm and a raucous home crowd to secure a hard-fought 106-100 victory over the Portland Lumberjacks on Friday night. The Fog, trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half, found their rhythm after halftime, led by a balanced scoring attack and crucial defensive stops that swung the momentum in their favor.
The Lumberjacks, looking to solidify their postseason positioning, came out with energy, building a double-digit lead through a combination of inside scoring from Brooke King and clutch perimeter shooting from Kian Maxwell. Portland’s suffocating defense, spearheaded by Sita Devi’s four first-half steals, kept Fajg off-balance, resulting in a 52-44 halftime advantage for the home team.
However, the Fog emerged from the locker room a different team. Anya Morozova, who finished with 12 points, ignited the comeback with a series of aggressive drives and timely jumpers. Luka Svensson led all scorers with 21 points, while Chen Wei added 18 points and a game-high 5 assists, orchestrating the Fog’s offense with precision.
“We knew we had to dig deep,” said Fog head coach Ramirez. “Portland is a tough team at home, but our guys showed a lot of grit and composure. We made the necessary adjustments and executed in the second half.”
The fourth quarter saw multiple lead changes. A three-pointer from Kian Maxwell put Portland up by two with under three minutes remaining, but the Fog responded immediately. Morozova’s steal and fast-break layup tied the game, and Svensson followed with a go-ahead jumper. The Lumberjacks struggled to regain their footing, missing key free throws and turning the ball over under pressure.
“We let one get away,” admitted Lumberjacks forward Brooke King, who contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds. “We played well for stretches, but we can’t afford lapses like that against good teams. We have to learn from this.”
The victory improves the Fog’s record and sends a strong message to the rest of the league about their championship aspirations.
