Miami's Bench Shines as Mavericks Cruise Past Surfers

SYDNEY – The Miami Mavericks showcased a relentless defensive effort and a deep offensive arsenal to overpower the Sydney Surfers, securing a decisive 108-85 victory on the road in Pro League action. A crucial second-quarter surge, fueled by suffocating defense and a barrage of assists, propelled the Mavericks en route to a commanding win.
The Surfers struggled to find their offensive rhythm throughout the contest, hampered by strong defensive pressure from the Mavericks. While Sydney managed to move the ball effectively at times, 15 turnovers proved costly. Miami, conversely, capitalized on these opportunities, converting turnovers into points and building a lead they would never relinquish.
The tide truly turned in the second quarter. After a back-and-forth opening, Miami’s Elara Dixon ignited a scoring run with a pivotal steal that led to a fast break. The Mavericks followed this up with consecutive three-pointers from Isabella Kim and Dixon herself, extending their lead significantly. Despite Sydney’s efforts to respond, with Rafe Mortensen and Noah Suzuki finding the basket, Miami’s offensive firepower, led by Viktor Lindholm, proved too much to contain.
“We knew coming into Sydney would be tough, but our guys stepped up,” said Mavericks Head Coach, David Lee. “Our defense set the tone tonight, and our offense followed suit. It was a true team effort.”
Lindholm and Sofia Rossi led the Mavericks with 16 points apiece, showcasing their offensive prowess. Elara Dixon added a well-rounded performance with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
For the Surfers, Omar Al-Hassan was a bright spot, scoring 13 points. “We just didn’t execute when it mattered,” Al-Hassan admitted. “We have to learn from this and come back stronger.”
