Johnson Explodes for 35, Scorchers Cruise Past Mavericks 110-85
Adam Johnson's Masterclass Leads Phoenix to Convincing Victory
PHOENIX – The Phoenix Scorchers put on a dominant offensive display, fueled by a career-high 35 points from Adam Johnson, to hand the Miami Mavericks a decisive 110-85 defeat. The Scorchers controlled the tempo from the opening tip, showcasing crisp ball movement and timely shooting to extend their winning streak.
The Scorchers established their authority early, with Johnson leading the charge. His ability to consistently find the bottom of the net, including a crucial three-pointer in the second quarter, ignited the Phoenix offense. The Mavericks struggled to find their rhythm, hampered by a cold shooting night from beyond the arc, hitting just 9 of 44 attempts.
Phoenix’s supporting cast also delivered. Elena Garcia added 10 points and 8 rebounds, while Lila Petersen nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and 9 boards. The Scorchers’ collective effort on the glass, outrebounding Miami 55-51, provided crucial second-chance opportunities.
“We came out with a lot of energy tonight, and Adam was just on fire,” said Scorchers Head Coach Marcus Bell. “When he’s hitting shots like that, it opens up everything for us. Our defense stepped up too, making them work for every possession.”
Miami’s Viktor Lindholm and Kai Blackwood tried to keep their team in the game with 14 points each, and Elara Dixon contributed 13 points and 7 rebounds. However, the Mavericks’ offensive struggles proved too much to overcome against a focused Scorchers squad.
“We just didn’t execute tonight,” stated Mavericks guard Elara Dixon. “Phoenix played a great game, and we have to learn from this and come back stronger.”
