RICHMOND – The Richmond Rapids secured a commanding 4-1 victory over the North Vancouver Navigators in a game that showcased the Rapids’ offensive depth and defensive resilience. Momentum swung decisively in Richmond’s favor following a tight first half, turning the tide with three consecutive goals in the second period that North Vancouver struggled to counter.
The match opened with high intensity, but it was the Navigators who drew first blood when Nora Schmidt capitalized on a rebound off a shot by Kieran McCarthy, tying the game early. However, Richmond quickly regained control as Dmitri Sokolov netted a rebound, assisted by Amara Diop, signaling the start of the Rapids’ scoring spree.
Lila Nair extended the lead with another rebound finishing, set up perfectly by Diop and Sokolov, showcasing Richmond’s effective puck movement. Owen Gallagher then deflected a shot from Nair past the North Vancouver goaltender Tereza Novak, further demoralizing the visitors.
Amara Diop sealed the game’s fate with a powerful slap shot, assisted by Nia Mwangi and Gallagher, wrapping up the fourth goal. Nikolai Petrov stood firm in goal, making 18 critical saves and maintaining a stellar save percentage of nearly 95%, anchoring the Rapids’ defense.
Despite firing 27 shots, the Navigators struggled with turnovers and could not break through Petrov’s solide netminding. Tereza Novak faced 31 shots and saved 21, but ultimately the Rapids’ offensive pressure was relentless.
“Our team executed the game plan perfectly,” coach Mark Lindsay said. “Petrov’s performance gave us the confidence to press hard every shift.”
Gallagher, contributing a goal and an assist, shared, “We knew what we needed to do and everyone stepped up. It’s a great team effort.”
This win boosts Richmond Rapids’ standing and highlights their readiness for the playoffs, while the Navigators will look to address turnovers and increase shot efficiency.
