LONDON – THE LONDON LIONS CLAIMED THE PRO LEAGUE TITLE ON HOME COURT Saturday, overwhelming the Sydney Surfers with a commanding 103-82 victory. A relentless offensive attack and stifling defense proved too much for the Surfers, as the Lions controlled the game from the opening tip-off to seal their championship aspirations.
The tone was set early, with the Lions showcasing their offensive firepower. Cassia Aoki and Chloe Beaumont were instrumental, providing a potent one-two punch. Beaumont poured in 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, while Aoki added a crucial 14 points and 7 boards, including a key sequence in the second quarter where she scored back-to-back baskets despite facing defensive pressure. The Lions’ ball movement was exceptional, leading to 28 assists on the night and keeping the Surfers’ defense on its heels.
Sydney fought valiantly, led by Brennan Cole’s 17 points and 5 assists, but struggled with efficiency, particularly from the free-throw line where they shot just 44.4%. Despite some bright spots, like Noah Suzuki’s field goal in the first half, the Surfers couldn’t find a consistent rhythm against the Lions’ active defense, which racked up 12 blocks.
“We knew this was our moment,” said a jubilant Beaumont post-game. “We played with heart and executed our game plan. This championship is for our city.”
Coach David Miller praised his team’s resilience and focus. “The Surfers pushed us, but our players stepped up when it mattered. Our depth and unselfishness were the difference makers tonight.”
