Samurai Snatch Victory: Patel's Dominance Fuels Tokyo's 104-94 Win Over Orcas
Patel's Triple-Double Leads Tokyo Samurai Past Vancouver Orcas
TOKYO – The Tokyo Samurai rode a dominant performance from Cassian Patel to a crucial 104-94 victory over the Vancouver Orcas on Saturday, asserting their presence in the World Pro League standings. Patel’s all-around brilliance, coupled with clutch shooting from Rhys Caldwell, proved to be the difference in a hard-fought contest that saw momentum shift multiple times.
The Orcas came out with energy, trading blows with the Samurai through the first half. Zara Ahmed provided a spark for Vancouver, hitting timely three-pointers to keep them within striking distance. However, the Samurai’s offensive firepower, spearheaded by Patel, began to wear down the Orcas defense.
Patel was a force in the paint and finding open teammates, orchestrating the Samurai’s offense. He finished with a staggering 25 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 assists, a stat line that showcased his all-around impact. Rhys Caldwell added a vital 21 points, including several crucial three-pointers that stemmed Orca rallies, including one that pushed the Samurai lead to double digits in the fourth quarter. Ren Yoshida also contributed with a near triple-double himself, dishing out 7 assists and grabbing 8 rebounds to go with 9 points.
“We knew this was a must-win game,” said Samurai Head Coach Kenjiro Ito. “Cassian was incredible tonight, but it was a total team effort. Everyone stepped up when we needed them most.”
Despite a late surge from the Orcas, led by Isabella Perez’s 13 points, the Samurai’s offensive depth and strong rebounding held firm. “We had our moments, but we couldn’t sustain it,” admitted Orcas captain, Lena Petrov. “Tokyo’s defense adjusted well, and Patel just took over.”
