Hughes Leads Dominant Aces Performance in Blowout Victory

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Aces showcased their offensive firepower and defensive grit on Saturday, overwhelming the Phoenix Scorchers with a decisive 110-79 victory at home. A relentless offensive attack and suffocating defense in the second half secured the win for the Aces, solidifying their position in the Pro League standings and extending their home winning streak.
The Scorchers showed flashes of competitiveness early, with Elena Garcia and Adam Johnson trading baskets with the Aces’ Bjorn Mortensen and Giselle Laurent. However, a critical turnover by Phoenix late in the second quarter, resulting in an Aces fast break, swung the momentum firmly in Las Vegas’s favor. From that point on, the Aces controlled the tempo, building an insurmountable lead.
Ethan Hughes was the undisputed star of the night for the Aces, pouring in a game-high 23 points to go along with 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Giselle Laurent added 20 points of her own, while Bjorn Mortensen chipped in 17. For the Scorchers, Adam Johnson dished out a team-high 6 assists and scored 12 points, but it wasn’t enough to counter the Aces’ balanced offensive attack.
“We really locked in on defense in the second half and that opened up our offense,” said Aces head coach, Marcus Thorne. “When we play like this, with this much energy, we’re a tough team to beat.” Hughes added, “It felt good to see the ball go in tonight. We’re building momentum, and that’s what matters most right now.”
