LOS ANGELES – The Tokyo Samurai delivered a clinic in offensive firepower on Tuesday night, dismantling the Los Angeles Vipers 120-98 in a commanding performance at the Crypto.com Arena. A relentless barrage of three-pointers and exceptional ball movement proved too much for the Vipers, who struggled to contain the Samurai’s explosive attack, particularly in the second half.
The Samurai wasted no time asserting their dominance. Early in the first quarter, a steal by Cassian Patel led to a quick Samurai basket, igniting a spark that would burn throughout the game. While Los Angeles managed to keep pace for a period, with Daniel Rojas and Freya Schultz providing key contributions, Tokyo’s offense began to find its rhythm. Rhys Caldwell, who finished with a game-high 27 points, was unstoppable, hitting multiple crucial three-pointers that stretched the Vipers’ defense.
The momentum truly shifted in the third quarter. Ren Yoshida, the Samurai’s masterful point guard, orchestrated the offense with precision, dishing out a game-high 10 assists. His court vision, coupled with the scoring of Caldwell and the inside presence of Cassian Patel (10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists), created offensive opportunities that Los Angeles simply couldn’t answer. Despite solid efforts from Rojas (17 points) and Schultz (13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks) for the Vipers, their shooting struggles, especially from beyond the arc, hindered their ability to mount a comeback.
“We knew they were a potent offensive team, and we just couldn’t get stops when we needed them,” said Vipers Head Coach Michael Evans. “We have to learn from this and get better.”
Rhys Caldwell commented on the team’s performance, “We focused on moving the ball and playing our game. When we share the rock and everyone is engaged, we’re a tough team to beat.”
